Mt. Kilimanjaro 3Lemosho Route

9 Days  Mount Kilimanjaro – Machame Route:

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and transfer to the airport or continue with an optional safari, Zanzibar beach holiday, or cultural excursion.

Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and meet your representative for a warm welcome. After luggage assistance, transfer to your lodge in Moshi or Arusha, located at the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. Check in, relax, and recover from your journey. In the afternoon or early evening, you will meet your head guide for a comprehensive briefing covering safety guidelines, trail expectations, altitude considerations, and a detailed equipment check to ensure you have everything required for the hike. The night is spent preparing mentally and physically for the adventure ahead.

Day 2: Machame Gate to Machame Camp

After breakfast, drive to Machame Gate for registration with park authorities. This is the starting point of your trek. Porters organize your gear while you enjoy the forest surroundings. Begin your hike through dense rainforest, following a winding trail shaded by tall trees draped in moss. Expect humid conditions and possible light showers. The path is gradual but continuous, with occasional wildlife sightings like monkeys and colorful birds. After several hours of trekking, arrive at Machame Camp at 3,010 meters, where tents are already set up. Enjoy a warm dinner and overnight at the camp.

Day 3: Machame Camp to Shira Camp

Wake up to morning views of the surrounding forest before climbing out of the lush vegetation zone. The trail becomes steeper as you ascend into heather and moorland, crossing ridges and open spaces. You will notice the vegetation thinning as the altitude increases. Stunning views of Mount Meru appear in the distance as you approach Shira Plateau. Arrive at Shira Camp at 3,840 meters in the afternoon. Spend the rest of the day acclimatizing, exploring the plateau, and enjoying a hot meal before settling into your tent for the night.

Day 4: Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

Today is an important acclimatization day. Trek across the Shira Plateau, passing volcanic formations and rocky terrain. Continue upward toward the Lava Tower, reaching an altitude of about 4,600 meters. Here you stop for lunch and acclimatization, which is crucial for adapting to high altitude. After resting, descend gradually into the Barranco Valley, a beautiful area filled with giant Senecio trees and stunning views of the Southern Icefields. Arrive at Barranco Camp at 3,950 meters for dinner and a well-deserved rest.

Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Begin the day with the exhilarating climb of the Barranco Wall, a near-vertical rock face that is challenging but safe with slow, careful trekking. From the top, enjoy expansive views of the valleys below and the glaciers above. Continue along a series of ridges and valleys, taking in the rugged landscapes. After a few hours, arrive at Karanga Camp at 4,035 meters. This day is shorter to allow better acclimatization. Spend the evening relaxing, hydrating, and preparing for the next day’s ascent.

Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

After breakfast, continue your trek toward Barafu Camp. The landscape becomes more barren, marked by volcanic rock and alpine desert. The trail ascends steadily, and you feel the thinning air. Arrive at Barafu Camp at 4,640 meters by afternoon. This is the base camp for your summit attempt. After an early dinner, rest in your tent as the summit climb will begin around midnight. Guides will brief you on the route, weather expectations, and mental preparation for the long night ahead.

Day 7: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

Wake up around midnight, dress warmly, and begin the final ascent to the summit. The trail is steep and demanding, zig-zagging through loose volcanic scree. Reach Stella Point at dawn—an emotional and rewarding milestone. From here, continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters, the highest point in Africa. Celebrate with photos and a moment of reflection before beginning your descent to Barafu Camp. After a short rest, continue downhill to Mweka Camp at 3,100 meters for a well-deserved sleep.

Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate – Return to Moshi/Arusha

Enjoy your final breakfast on the mountain before descending through the rainforest. The trail can be slippery, especially if wet, so trekking poles help. Upon reaching Mweka Gate, sign out and receive your summit certificates. Your driver will meet you for a transfer back to your lodge in Moshi or Arusha. Enjoy a hot shower, a celebratory meal, and a relaxing evening after completing this incredible achievement.

Day 9: Departure Day

After breakfast, depending on your schedule, transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight home. Alternatively, extend your adventure with an optional wildlife safari, Zanzibar beach holiday, or cultural tour. This marks the end of your unforgettable Kilimanjaro experience.
